February 17, 1897 The Parent Teachers Association was founded under the name National Congress of Mothers chaired by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst.
National PTA is a strong advocate for public education, bettering the lives of every child in education, health, and safety.
The PTA continues to be the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the nation, It is responsible in whole or in part for the creation of Kindergarten classes, child labor laws, public health service, hot and healthy lunch programs, juvenile justice system, mandatory immunization, arts in education and school safety programs.
